The Churchill III was a British tank that was delivered to the Soviet Union in the Second World War. A Total of 301 vehicles made it to Murmansk without being shot by German ships. The British tried delivering them by sea, going at a route through the north of Scandinavia to Murmansk. Once the Churchill's arrived, the Soviet took them for a few tests. They turned out to be quite horrible in comparison to their own tanks and the Soviet tanks were considered superior.
In World of Tanks though, this same Churchill III is quite liked by some people (including me). The Churchill III is a very slow tank, but the gun and frontal armor are amazing. Let's not get into details too much though and look at the paper stats:
700 HP: Very good for a tier V heavy tank, it is even the most of all tier V tanks.
376 hp engine power: Not so good if you look at the weight of 39.71 tons.
176 mm frontal armor: Amazingly well, this armor is the armor you should rely on, with a bit of luck, a KV-1S will not pen this. The weakspots are also easily hidable.
76 mm mm side and 50 mm rear armor: Try covering this part and attacking with your frontal armor only, since this armor is already pennable for M3 Lees.
20 deg/sec track traverse: Quite bad, try turning before fighting.
570 m signal range: OK for a tier V heavy, not very good, but hey! It's a premium tank, what do you expect?
Earnings: It earns a lot of exp and also earns quite good credits if you play good games.
Turret Churchill III:
88 frontal and side armor: This turret is not made for Hull down, don't do that. Still though, if you are in a face to face battle to a Churchill III, try shooting the frontal or side turret armor, penning is more likely there.
76 mm back armor: Same case as above.
34 deg/sec turning speed: Very nice, you can turn your turret not too slowly around.
350 meters view range: Very good, try using it in your advantage above other tier V heavies, you have the most of all of them.
The QF 6 pounder Mk. V gun:
140 ammo is enough if you don't kill much, if you do, you don't have enough ammo. The ammo is very cheap though.
75 HP Damage and 26.25 RoF: Very good, a standard 57/6 pounder gun, quick RoF, low damage. (Tip of mine: Put a gun rammer on and you have a reload of less than 2 seconds). I really like it since going head to head to mediums is maybe a butt-hurt surprise for them.
110 pen: Could be better, but for tier V, this is fine in my eyes. Either this is good, or you want premium ammo. OR you aim for weakspots.
So, if we put the Pro's and Con's in a row there we have:
Pro's:
- Good armor against tier IV and even against some tier V tanks.
- A lot of Health
- Reasonable turret traverse
- Weakspots are easily hidable by turning your hull
- Earns good exp and Credits.
- A lot of ammo to have.
- Quite good armor, better than the British Churchill I.\
- High RoF, with rammer, vents and 100% crew less than 1,9 seconds.
Con's:
- Bad turret armor
- Not the best pen
- Turret is unsloped
- Low damage
- Arty magnet
- Bad mobility
In battles, you should try sticking you a group since you can not be left alone. You should stay with other heavies and act like a good support tank. You shouldn't go hull down and you shouldn't rely on your armor, because even though paper stats are quite good, the rest is pretty crappy. So try just having support, try using this tank as a sniper tank and if you peek a boo with another HT, shoot 3 rounds and go back.
Special anti-KV-1S tip:
If the KV-1S misses shooting you, go fully into attacking him and try taking him down, in the time he reloads, you have fired enough shots to kill him.
And with all of this, I wish you guys good luck with this tank and a lot of fun.
